Our office serves clients living abroad and in Turkey in the field of international law within the framework of Turkish law. Our lawyers are experienced in matters that involve a foreign element by their nature or by the parties concerned, and provide their services in English, German and Turkish.
As a rule, the recognition and enforcement of a divorce decree issued by a foreign court is carried out by the competent Turkish court. With the 2018 reform, however, a divorce decision given by a foreign court or administrative authority may be registered directly in the family register without the need to file a recognition action in Turkey. Decisions containing enforcement provisions (alimony, custody, etc.) still require an application to the Turkish courts. Assessing whether the conditions for recognition are met requires the judgement of a lawyer experienced in foreign law.
Foreigners who will stay in Turkey longer than the period granted by a visa or visa exemption, or longer than ninety days, must obtain a residence permit. Permit types include short-term, family, student, long-term, humanitarian and victim-of-human-trafficking residence permits. We guide our clients through the application process and represent them in any disputes that arise.
With our multilingual team, we offer foreign clients fast, reliable legal advice and litigation in Turkish, English and German.
